Sisters

Before we knew whether we were having a boy or girl, part of me really wanted the baby to be a boy. I was afraid what it would be like having another little girl - and a "typical" girl. Would we constantly be comparing Clare and her? Would Clare be left out when her sister had girlfriends, went to the prom, got married, had babies? Would a sister resent having an older sister like Clare? I was afraid of the answers to all those questions (and still am) and just wanted to have another boy to ensure that all those questions remained hypothetical. Then Clare could just continue to be the princess in our house, surrounded by brothers.

Sometimes God has other plans for us, and He sent us Violet instead of another boy. I truly love having another little girl, and I am happy that Clare has a sister. (I have two sisters and know how wonderful that bond can be.) And Clare is delighted with her little sister. She wants to hug, kiss, and love her daily. I still am apprehensive of what the dynamics of their relationship will be as they grow, but I hope both Clare and Violet always treasure the gift of having a sister.

I can't belive how much Clare has grown even since December..she looks so grown up in that picture. They will be the best of friends.

Tree, remind me to tell you more in-depth about my friend Patti (yes, the "Pizza Free" one) and her two daughters. Selena is older and has CP; Marlaina is the baby of the family, and she absolutely adores Selena - and has even worked with individuals who have special needs because Selena has helped her to become a mature, loving, nurturing adult. It's an amazing relationship, and one that probably both would never wish to have any other way.

Teresa ~ While I can appreciate your 'fears', I honestly believe that Clare & Violet will share a bond that nothing could destroy! Violet will absolutely love Clare - just as she "is"...as we all do!! Clare looks so wonderful holding her baby sister, too! Thanks for sharing!

They wont always treasure each other.. ..but I promise that they will always be grateful and proud of each other. They will have a bond like no other. They will learn from each other and be there for each other.
I have two boys so it is a little different. I still worry about the same things that you do, and some of them have come to pass. We always get through it though and we are stronger and more understanding than before. The boys are true best buddies. They tell each other that all the time.(when they think i'm not listening of course)
